Sometimes a CEO calls you not because they need a contractor. They need someone on their side.
A little while back, the CEO of Hussle — a fast-growing, ambitious UK business — rang Quarterback with a problem that’s more common than anyone in our industry likes to admit.
His brokers were pushing him towards their preferred contractor. The scope was murky. The costs were hard to interrogate. And when he asked the simple question — does this represent value for money? — nobody could give him a straight answer.
That’s not a contractor problem. That’s a structural one. The traditional real estate model is built on relationships that don’t always serve the client. Brokers have contractors. Contractors have brokers. And somewhere in the middle, the person actually paying for the project can end up the least informed person in the room. QBRE were brought in to cut through it.
That meant reviewing the scope, challenging what needed challenging, rebuilding the cost plan with full transparency, and making sure that when Hussle signed off, they knew exactly what they were getting — and why it was worth it.
The project is now complete. Hussle, subsequently acquired by the Europe-wide fitness giants EGYM, got the space they wanted, delivered the way they deserved. Clarity. Transparency. Confidence. That’s not a differentiator; it’s just how Quarterback work.
